How to set up a baby corner in parents' bedroom? What else could serve for a wardrobe? Will there be enough space for storage? These are only a few of many questions that Dominykas' parents have asked our interior designer Dovilė Genytė. Let's see how everything went.
The busiest room
This family uses their bedroom for everything from sleeping to working, resting and playing. Sadly, there is less room for play than they might want to have, as the majority of the floor is occupied by bulky furniture, including a double bed, a large wardrobe, a desk, and a cot that is already too small for Dominykas.

How should the child-friendly room look like?
The parents were dreaming of a space where their little one could play, learn and become more self-sufficient. The furniture they had was inappropriate for that. The wardrobe was too high to reach and the cot was inconvenient for Dominykas to climb into/out of it without help.

It's time to change
The family needed more functional storage solutions. To store anything from clothes to toys, our interior designer started with a modular PLATSA system that can be modified according to the needs. In this room, it consists of two high frames and several wall cabinets that together form two niches for Dominykas and his parents' beds. Over the beds, there is more room for storage including a MOSSLANDA ledge for pictures and two open shelves for Dominykas' toys.

The underbed storage boxes, two MALM chests of drawers and some open shelves above the TV can be used to store the things that doesn't fit inside the wardrobe. To save even more space, the beddings and seasonal clothes can be packed into the vacuum-sealed bags. There also are two VESSLA storage crates with castors for some of Dominykas' toys. They are stackable and space-saving when not in use.

Single pieces, double functions
"When buying new furniture look for pieces that can serve for more than one function," says Dovilė. A BRIMNES dressing table in this bedroom can also be used as a desk. And the BEKVÄM step stool serves for both a stool and a step that helps reaching things on the upper shelves.

Dovilė has designed a cosy corner for little Dominykas. She painted the wall near his bed in light blue and hung some DRÖMSYN lamps to create an illusion of mountain peaks above clouds. She also added some TROFAST wall shelves with boxes that lets use the walls for storage. The more items you store on the walls, the more floor space you have for movement and play.

At the request of the parents, the old Dominykas' cot was replaced with the new SNIGLAR bed frame made of solid wood, a hard-wearing natural material. It has a guard rail that prevents a child from falling out of the bed. "When buying furniture for children's room, choose from a specific children's range. The IKEA children's furniture are designed and tested to comply with all applicable safety requirements," says Dovilė.

Although the new Dominykas' room is quite little, it has enough room for a LÄTT table with two chairs. The table suits for both playing and drawing, as there also is a wooden MÅLA draw storage with 30 meters of drawing paper!
